Big dog art show comes to Ogunquit

Dale Rogers, a sculptor from Massachusetts, is traveling New England this summer with 20 of his oversized sculptures of dogs. Beginning Thursday, he'll set up his Big Dog Art Show at Littlefield Park in Ogunquit. He'll keep the show up until Tuesday, then move on to another community.

"Art enthusiasts, dog lovers, families, residents and visitors will encounter a unique gathering of compelling 'American Dog' sculptures that are larger-than-life, accessible and attractive to people of all ages," Rogers said in a press release. "Bringing art to the masses is valuable to everyone."

He makes the sculpture from metal. Each is about 8-feet tall and 10-feet wide.

Bob Keyes writes about the arts in Maine for the Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram. He's been in the newspaper business more than 20 years, having begun his career in 1985 as a news reporter for the Central Maine Morning Sentinel in Waterville.

The Maine Arts Blog serves as a gathering place for what we hope will be hearty and respectful exchanges about the arts in Maine, and we're interested in blogging about all the arts — the visual arts and performing arts equally.
