A-Rod's turnaround

Among the emails that baseball writers receive are PR  plugs for books, charity events and, lately, performance coaches.  Jim Fannin,  advertised as a "pioneering mental coach to MLB players," came out with 10 reasons why he believes Alex Rodriguez is finally performing well in the post-season.

Here's Mr. Fannin's list (of the 10, I believe No. 2 is the most legitimate):

1. He is playing ‘detached’ from results.
2. His teammates have taken pressure off of him namely Teixeira and Jeter.
3. He's in love with Kate Hudson
4. His ex-wife is still his close friend and an awesome mother to his kids.
5. He is just "hitting the ball solid" which he's done with
Fannin’s help over the years
6. He is sending positive, intimidating energy toward mound that says, "If
you make a mistake you will pay." Fannin created that mantra and Alex has
used it many times in the past.
7. His jaw is unhinged at the plate.
8. His consistent routines in the on-deck circle.
9. Avoiding the outside world especially the media.
10. He believes he is the greatest hitter of all-time. Period

Kevin covers baseball for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. He first reported on spring training games for the St. Petersburg Times in 1978. He wisely moved to Maine in 1994 and now writes about the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox — when he's not coaching Little League baseball.

He is married to Nancy, and the couple recently completed their lineup card with the birth of their ninth child.
